Softball: Fox Valley roundup Tuesday, April 14

The Elgin High softball team got its elusive first win of the season Tuesday, rolling over East Aurora 15-3 in an Upstate Eight crossover in Aurora.

Jessica Rago got the complete-game victory in the circle for the Maroons (1-10, 1-3), allowing just 4 hits with 8 strikeouts and 1 walk. She also went 2-for-4 at the plate with a home run, a double and 5 RBI.

Destiny West was 2-for-3 with 3 RBI for Elgin while Jemiyah Stewart (3-for-4, 3B, 3 RBI), Paige Walker (2-for-2, 3B, 2 RBI), Sabrina Stockman (2-for-4), Cassidy Sell (RBI) and Rachel Turner (2B) also contributed to the win.

Jacobs 5, Prairie Ridge 2: Kerri Healey's grand slam home run in the top of the sixth inning lifted the Golden Eagles (6-7) to a Fox Valley Conference crossover win. Sarah Murray (2-for-4), Hailey Lonigro (2-for-3, RBI) and Jess Mrzlak (2-for-3, 2B) also contributed to the win for Jacobs. Teaghan Richman picked up the win in the circle and Alexis Addante earned the save.

St. Edward 10, Fenton 0: Lindsay Zdroik and Emily Stapay combined on a 2-hitter and Zdroik went 2-for-4 with a double and 3 RBI as the Green Wave (9-1-1, 3-1) rolled to a Metro Suburban West win. Also contributing for St. Edward were Gloria Stoltz (2-for-3, 2 RBI), Ryann Scully (2-for-3, RBI), Stapay (2-for-4, 2B, 2 RBI), and Devyn Ernst (2-for-4).

CL Central 7, Dundee-Crown 2: Andrea Conway, Claire Weeks (2B, RBI), Deanna Origer and Megan Emerson (2 doubles, RBI) each had 2 hits for D-C (4-3) in this FVC crossover. Kayla Sjodin added a double for the Chargers and Sydney Ruggles was the losing pitcher.

Cary-Grove 10, Grayslake North 0: Caitlyn Adams had a grand slam home run and Colleen Kaveney (3-for-4, 2 RBI) 2 doubles to lead the Trojans (4-4) to an FVC crossover win. Molly MacDuff (2-for-5, RBI), Brianne Prank (RBI), Rachel Langner (2-for-4), Alyssa Gurgone (2-for-4) and Sarah Purpura (RBI) also contributed to the win and Amanda DeGroote threw a 3-hitter with 4 strikeouts and 3 walks.

CL South 5, Hampshire 2: In another FVC crossover, Brook Maddox (2 RBI), Lauren Gauger (2-for-4) and Carly Chovanec (2-for-3) each had doubles for Crystal Lake South (9-2) in its win over the Whip-Purs (3-10). Hailee Massie and Taylor Kassel each had RBI for the Gators as well. Sam Burgard was the winning pitcher in relief of Chloe Skorija.

Huntley 15, Woodstock North 0: Autumn Kasal went 5-for-5 with a home run, double and 2 RBI and Hayley O'Mara was 4-for-5 with a home run, 2 doubles and 2 RBI as the Red Raiders (9-2) pounded out 26 hits in an easy FVC crossover win. Haley Spannraft (3-for-5, 3 RBI), Shannon Walsh (2-for-3), Jessica Shields (3-for-5, 2B, 3B, RBI), Jessica Knutsen (2-for-2, 2B, RBI), Melanie Carolla (2-for-3, RBI) and Megan Baczewski (2-for-4, 2B, RBI) also contributed as Huntley had 11 players with hits in the game. Kateri Conklin allowed just 2 hits with 8 strikeouts and no walks in picking up the win.

West Aurora 6, Larkin 1: Ciara Alonso was 2-for-4 with a double and Haley Bohne drove in Larkin's only run in this Upstate Eight crossover. Sarah Hansen was the losing pitcher for the Royals (1-9, 1-3).
