Naperville Central overcomes Lockport in 9 innings

A walk was as good as a hit for Naperville Central softball, which beat nonconference host Lockport 4-3 in 9 innings.

Pitcher Julie Kestas (4-1) went the distance and got the game-winning run batted in with a base on balls in the top of the ninth inning to move the Redhawks to 5-1 on the year. Lisa Tassi went 3-for-4 with a double, and Lindsey Gonzalez had a pair of hits with a double.

Lisle 9, Seneca 4:

Lisle ripped 11 hits and Melissa Ericson (1-3) pitched a complete game to help Lisle (1-3, 1-1) earn its first victory in Interstate Eight Conference play at Seneca (9-4, 1-1). Megan Carlson hit a 3-run home run and Jennifer Cail cracked a 2-run shot for the Lions. Erica Krause had 3 hits, 2 doubles and 2 RBI while Catherine Coppin went 3-for-4.

Neuqua Valley 5, Geneva 3:

Rallying from a 3-0 deficit after six innings in the Upstate Eight Conference crossover in Geneva, Dominica Lange hit a game-winning 2-run home run to make a winner of pitcher Marisa Potter (1-2). Neuqua (4-9, 2-2) saw Jenny Budds go 4-for-4 and Danielle Olson collect 2 hits, including a double.

Downers Grove South 15, Naperville North 5:

Downers Grove South improved to 10-0 in its nonconference home game. The Mustangs outslugged the visitors 20-8 as Caroline Hedgcock went 4-for-4 with 2 doubles and 4 RBI, Kristen Bialek went 4-for-5 with 3 stolen bases and 4 runs scored and Kristin Lea went 3-for-5 with a double, 4 runs and 2 stolen bases. Payton Buresch moved to 5-0 on the mound. Naperville North collected doubles by Alexis Solak, Alex Hanselman and Rachel Martin.

Willowbrook 7, Proviso West 0:

A 6-run second inning was all it took in support of Delaney Pelsor's shutout pitching in the West Suburban Conference crossover. Willowbrook (7-3) got a pair of hits from Isabella Devins and 2 more hits and 2 RBI from Sam Schmidt.

Glenbard South 3, Wheaton Academy 1:

Taylor Carli threw a 4-hitter with 11 strikeouts and didn't allow an earned run or base on balls in the Metro Suburban West win. Glenbard South (7-1, 3-0) enjoyed a 3-run sixth inning, the winning run scoring on a fielder's choice and insurance on Payton Carli's bunt single. Wheaton Academy (3-2, 1-2) had a double by catcher Jessica Bosse.

IC Catholic 6, Riverside-Brookfield 0:

Jessica Conenna (5-1) threw a 4-hit shutout, striking out five batters as IC (9-2, 1-2) earned the Metro Suburban West victory in Elmhurst. She also helped herself with a 2-run double, assisted by Kaitlyn Falduto's 3 singles and 2 hits apiece by Josie Lytton and Gabby Curran.
