Driver accused of DUI crashes into barrier near Naperville museum

A woman with a history of driving under the influence hit a barrier on the south side of the DuPage Children's Museum early Friday morning in Naperville and has been charged with another DUI, authorities said.

Jennifer I. Kline, 55, of the 100 block of Pepperidge Road in Naperville, was arrested on suspicion of DUI, leaving the scene of an accident and driving on the sidewalk, Naperville police Sgt. Bill Davis said.

When police found her inside her car in her driveway, Davis said her silver 2005 Jeep Liberty had "heavy front-end damage."

Police originally got a call that a car hit a tree at 12:19 a.m. Friday. But Davis said the vehicle actually struck a barrier on the south side of the museum at 301 N. Washington St. near the Naperville Metra station. Davis said police do not yet have an estimate of damage to the barrier near the museum, which has been closed since early January when a pipe burst and flooded all three floors.

A witness told police the car drove on the sidewalk before leaving the scene. It then was followed, and Davis said an officer arrested Kline at her home.

Kline's charges are all misdemeanors, and she is free on $100 bail awaiting a DuPage County court date at 9 a.m. Tuesday, May 12.

She has been charged with DUI three times before, once in 2000 and twice in 2001, according to court records. Kline also was sentenced to 14 days in DuPage County jail in 2011 after being found guilty of reckless driving, failure to wear a seat belt, failure to signal a turn and operating an uninsured vehicle, records show.
