Behan's big flies power Carmel
Jenny Behan homered three times, including twice in an 11-run first inning, as Carmel Catholic's softball team pounded visiting Resurrection 18-0 in a nonconference softball game Wednesday.
Carmel improved to 9-1.
Behan, who's signed with James Madison University, finished with 6 RBI. Jen Giesey, Sarah Koesser and Emma Bartz also homered for the Corsairs. Besides Behan, Claire Petrus (double, 2 runs), Amanda Elert (3 runs) and Koesser also had 3 hits. Petrus pitched 4 innings for the win, striking out seven.
Mundelein 14, Prospect 9: Maria DeVito belted a grand slam and finished 3-for-4, as the host Mustangs captured the nonconference game for their third win in a row.
Maddie Zazas was 2-for-3 with 2 walks, and Maggie Mahar went 2-for-4 with a double for Mundelein (7-2). The Mustangs also got extra-base hits from Karlee Busscher (double) and Amanda Diaz (triple).
Nicole Parney pitched 5 innings for the win, while freshman Breanna Adams fired the final 2 innings for the save.
Grayslake North 10, Stevenson 4: Kayla Switalla went 2-for-3 with 2 triples, walks and 3 RBI for the Knights in the nonconference game.
Grayslake North also received 2 hits apiece from Brooke Phillips (triple, 3 runs, 2 RBI) and winning pitcher Jessica Vaughn (triple, 2 RBI). Lauren Olsen doubled for the Knights.
Vaughn went the distance in the circle, allowing 3 earned runs.
Alyssa Pauly had 2 hits for Stevenson (2-3), and Vera Pflugradt tripled.
Antioch 14, Grayslake Central 5: The host Sequoits improved to 8-1, getting 2 hits apiece from Hannah Skoog (triple), Ashley Stephens (double, 2 RBI), Jessica Tyrell (double, 2 RBI) and Annie Wagner (double, 2 RBI). Amanda Costain also had a double, while Hannah Cook pitched a complete game, striking out eight and not allowing an earned run.
Grayslake Central (6-5) was led offensively by Maddie Marshall, who went 2-for-3 with 2 doubles and an RBI, and Teagan Truskowski, who was 2-for-4 with a double.
Juliana Frusolone doubled and drove in 2 runs for the Rams.
Crystal Lake Central 3, Wauconda 2: The Tigers snapped a 2-2 tie in the sixth with a single run off Bulldogs ace Kayla Wedl, who struck out 13 and did not issue a walk in suffering the loss.
Wauconda (6-5) got its only 2 hits from Mallory Carver and Hailey Davenport.
Schaumburg 9, Lake Zurich 1: The Bears got 2 hits apiece from Vanessa DiVincenzo and Rachel Dawson.
Melissa Goldberg had a double for Lake Zurich in the nonconference game.
