Incumbents Krause, Mastroianni return to Benjamin Dist. 25 board

Benjamin Elementary District 25 incumbents Jodi Krause and Tammy Mastroianni will serve another term on the board of education, alongside newcomer Lisa Willuweit, unofficial results show.

With all nine precincts reporting, unofficial vote totals show Krause in the lead with 406 votes, followed by Willuweit with 395 votes.

Mastroianni received 371 votes, just a few more than Incrocci, who trailed with 349 votes.

Krause, of Carol Stream, said she believes standardized test scores are taking away too much time from educating students. She would like to see local school boards have more say over education and believes the federal government has damaged students with the No Child Left Behind Act.

Krause works as a recreation supervisor at the Barrington Park District and has previously served as a teachers assistant for the district.

Willuweit, of West Chicago, is a high school administrator. She wants to see the district maintain strong arts programs and remain mindful of the impact increased use of technology and increased frequency and demands of state testing have on current programs.

Mastroianni, also of Carol Stream, has served on the board since 2007, including two years as board president. She is currently the board's vice president. All three of Mastroianni's children attended District 25 schools.

District 25 includes Benjamin Middle School in West Chicago and Evergreen Elementary School in Carol Stream. It serves about 750 students from portions of Carol Stream, West Chicago and unincorporated West Chicago.
