Still no winner for Pingree Grove mayor, 1 trustee seat
While two incumbent Pingree Grove village trustees won re-election Tuesday, the races for the board's third seat and village president's office were too close to call and it may be weeks before the contests are decided.
In the president's race, longtime Trustee Steve Wiedmeyer leads incumbent Greg Marston by just two votes, according to unofficial results on the Kane County clerk's website.
Early voting and ballots cast Tuesday had been counted, with Wiedmeyer holding a 312 to 310 lead over Marston.
While economic development issues were the driver of the president's race, it was contentious through Election Day.
Some residents complained Tuesday to the KaneComm dispatch center that Marston was electioneering at a village polling place, Deputy Police Chief Shawn Beane said. KaneComm directed the callers to the Kane County Board of elections, Beane said.
Marston said he went to cast his vote, and he greeted and shook hands with two people he knew as he walked in and they walked out.
Kane County Assistant State's Attorney Joe Lulves said 18 complaints about a variety of election issues were received by Tuesday afternoon, but no violations had been found.
In the village board race, incumbents Bernard Thomas and Robert Spieker held onto their seats. Thomas had 414 votes, while Spieker had 366 votes.
However, just three votes separate incumbent Brian Paszkiewicz's 331 votes and challenger Joe Nowosielski's 328.
Thomas, Spieker and Paszkiewicz all endorsed Wiedmeyer over Marston, objecting to the incumbent president's leadership style.
