Bartlett teen sports new athletic prosthetic leg

It was a dream come true for Tiffany Wallace.

The 18-year-old Bartlett High School senior's new athletic prosthetic leg arrived near the end of March.

Wallace collected more than $20,000 through an online campaign for her new custom-built athletic prosthesis so she could continue participating in athletics. Friends and family used social media to spread the word resulting in a flurry of donations.

Wallace was born with a right leg that never fully formed below the knee - a condition known as amniotic band syndrome. She has had multiple prostheses since she was 11 months old. Yet, she has been active all her life, learning ballet in elementary school, playing basketball in middle school and badminton in high school.

"It honestly feels so good," wrote Wallace on her Indiegogo.com blog after taking her new leg out for a spin. "I'm still getting used to it as it is completely different than my other leg, but it's getting better with each step I take. I actually ran two laps around one side of the gym today just to see what I could do. When I was done my leg didn't hurt, and it felt incredible. It makes me so excited as this is just the beginning and there are so many doors that have opened for me because of this."

Wallace plans to attend Illinois State University to study nursing this fall, and pursue sports.
