Algonquin home damaged in fire

An Algonquin home was damaged by a minor fire Monday evening, fire officials said.

The Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District responded to the fire at around 8:30 p.m. on the 1100 block of Menoma Trail, according to a news release.

A neighbor first discovered the fire in the two-story single family home and alerted the homeowners, who were able to escape safely. The neighbor helped to extinguish most of the flames, officials said.

The house was still habitable, and the cause remains under investigation.
