Hikers make their way through Joshua Tree National Park in California last month. The park's fan-palm oases has both beauty and geological significance as it marks an area where groundwater hits a fault plane and rises to the surface to create conditions for an oasis. Lynne Solway of Buffalo Grove
The beautiful, complementary colors---yellow and purple---of these emerging crocus flowers attracted my attention when I took this photo. I set the flowers on our kitchen table, and used sidelight from a nearby patio door to bring out the wonderful translucence of the petals. Mike Weimer of St. Charles
I took a picture of this same tree a few days earlier on one of our first nice springlike mornings. On the morning of this day it was anything but. Spring seemed pretty short-lived! I call this one "What a difference a few days makes". Tom Nicol of Geneva
I took this picture ss we were hiking through Rocky Mountain National Park last summer, when we came across this lone tree. I liked the look of the snow capped mountains in the background and added a sepia tone for drama. James Paskiewicz of Algonquin
