Bail set for man accused of selling heroin in Elgin
A 32-year-old Bellwood man was ordered held on a total bail of $275,000 Thursday on charges that he sold heroin to an undercover Elgin police officer multiple times in January.
Angelo Hobson was charged with delivery of a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a church after prosecutors say he sold the undercover officer .9 grams of heroin near the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Elgin on Jan. 14. If convicted, he could face up to 30 years in prison.
Prosecutors say Hobson sold between 1.1 and 1.5 grams of heroin to an undercover officer for amounts ranging from $60 to $150 on Jan. 16, 23 and 29.
Elgin police arrested Hobson about 10:50 p.m. Monday during the execution of a search warrant, said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Anisa Jordan.
At the time, he had 22 plastic bags that had once contained heroin in his mouth, said Jordan. He was taken to the hospital and later released to police custody.
Hobson next appears in court on April 20.
