Raid on catalytic converter thefts joint effort from Schaumburg, Chicago police

A raid took place this afternoon in Chicago in connection with the theft of hundreds of catalytic converters from Schaumburg and throughout the Chicago area, police said.

The raid took place around noon in the area of Kilpatrick and Chicago avenues, according to Chicago Police media relations, and was a joint effort between Chicago police, Schaumburg police and the Cook County State's Attorneys office.

Since 2013, Schaumburg has experienced about 100 thefts of catalytic converters, Schaumburg Lt. Shawn Green said.

"As a police department, we are very happy with the level of cooperation between the agencies involved in the operation," Green said. "It was a great joint effort."

Chicago police declined to discuss the number of arrests made and said the investigation remains ongoing.
