April 6: Free, multi-media concert to 'Celebrate Earth'

Jack Kaufmann, a Normal, Ill.-based musician and environmental "ambassador," will present a free multi-media concert from 7-8:15 p.m. on April 6 in the C Wing Auditorium at the College of Lake County Grayslake campus. (Due to building construction, the C Wing entrance will be closed. Please enter through the B Wing entrance, located east of the C Wing entrance.)

Titled as "Concert to Celebrate Earth," the event is targeted to all age groups and includes original compositions as well as recognizable cover tunes. Along with his story-teller style delivery, Kaufmann combines vocals, flute, guitar, keyboards and percussion. His music is enhanced by a video presentation, which includes educational information and images of nature. Kaufmann, whose show is designed for both children and adults, is "a high energy rock 'n roller …an enviro-tainer who draws on vast creative resources to teach and inspire," according to the Chicago Tribune.

In addition to performing, Kaufmann teaches environmental health courses at both Illinois State University and Lincoln College. He holds two degrees from Illinois State University, a B.S. in environmental health and an M.S. in health education. Since 1990, he has performed at more than 2,000 schools and events. The concert, sponsored jointly by the College of Lake County and the Solid Waste Agency of Lake County, is one of several Recycling Week events. They serve as a prelude to Earth Week events to be celebrated at the college from April 20-25. For a full list of events, visit the college's Greening Our Community web page at
