Vernon Hills earns extra-inning win in DH split
Vernon Hills' baseball team started off its Tuesday the right way, with an extra-inning victory, before settling for a split of its doubleheader with host DuQuoin.
Connor McNamara's one-out 2-run double in the eighth was the difference in the Cougars' 7-5 win. McNamara also doubled in the third.
Brendan Keogh got it done on the hill on the way to a win. He allowed 1 run over 4⅔ innings in relief of starter Sam Perlin. Keogh struck out one, walked three and gave up 3 hits.
Nick Marras also had a double for the Cougars and knocked in a run. Matt Paszko and Nick Conrad collected RBI as well.
Vernon Hills dropped the second game 6-5, rallying for a pair of runs in the top of the seventh, before DuQuoin scored 2 runs itself in the bottom of the frame.
Perlin was 2-for-2 with a double for Vernon Hills. Jack Duffley also doubled. Paszko, Justin Falk, Perlin and Eric Weiler had RBI.
Woodstock 3, Antioch 2: The host Blue Streak scored twice in the bottom of the 10th, after the Sequoits went ahead in the top of the inning.
Seven Antioch players had hits, with Travis Slywka (1-for-4) notching the only RBI.
Prairie Ridge 12, Lakes 1: The visiting Eagles lost in six innings to fall to 1-3-1.
Crystal Lake Central 3, Wauconda 1: The visiting Bulldogs fell to 2-3 on the season with the nonconference loss.
Mundelein 10, Crystal Lake Central 2: On Monday, Luke Peterson went 4-for-4 with a double, and Reese Dolan and Zack Zagula homered, as the Mustangs improved to 6-1.
Winning pitcher Nick Brune and Reid Rubio also doubled.
