Citing a 2013 shoplifting conviction, Aurora Mayor Tom Weisner is calling for the resignation of an Aurora alderman. Weisner said he recently discovered Ward 10 Alderman Lynne Johnson pleaded guilty to retail theft after stealing from a Meijer store on Route 59, which is in her district, on Aug. 18, 2013. Volo woman faces federal charges in bank robbery case

A Volo woman is expected to appear in federal court this morning on federal charges of attempted bank robbery. Teresa M. Knowles, 39, faces federal charges filed after the March 24 attempted robbery of the Chase Bank in Johnsburg, and she's also suspected of robbing banks in Grayslake and Crystal Lake around the same time. Crystal Lake police search for bank robber

Crystal Lake police need help finding a man who robbed a Crystal Lake bank yesterday afternoon and got away with an undisclosed amount of money. The robbery happened about 4:20 p.m. at Fifth Third Bank, 265 W. Virginia St., police said in a news release. Full story.

Elgin man gets 18 years on drugs, weapons charges

An Elgin man was sentenced to 18 years in prison Monday for a series of drug and weapon crimes, Kane County officials said. Ramon R. Pickens, 44, of the 1200 block of Fairwood Court, was convicted in December of armed violence. Full story.
