Troubles grow for Campton Hills man accused of Geneva hospital assault

The legal woes are mounting for a 30-year-old Campton Hills man accused of trying to strangle a relative in January while at Delnor Hospital in Geneva.

The assault caused a lockdown at the hospital and nearby schools while authorities searched for the suspect.

Justin B. Patzer, of the 39W100 block of Campton Hills Road, eventually was arrested in Lake County, Indiana, and extradited back to Kane County, where he was being held on $280,000 bail.

Patzer, who has a long history of drug abuse and theft, recently was indicted by a grand jury on upgraded charges of armed violence, accusing him of being armed with a knife during the offense. If convicted, he faces up to 30 years in prison term without the chance of probation.

Patzer is next due in court April 22.

Prosecutors also are seeking a possible extended sentence of up to 60 years in prison because of Patzer's lengthy criminal history.

He also was indicted on charges that he damaged a 5-foot by 7-foot store display window in St. Charles on Jan. 26, 2015, records show.

Elgin man not guilty of assault

A Kane County jury recently found a 35-year-old Elgin man not guilty of sex assault allegations stemming from a February 2014 incident at a hotel.

Roger D. Eason, of the 300 block of McClure Avenue, faced up to 15 years in prison after being accused of having sex with a woman after she passed out from drinking too much.

According to Elgin police, two witnesses said they, the woman and Eason drank at a downtown Elgin bar and then went to a nearby hotel on the 1500 block of Lexington Avenue for sex.

The woman, according to police, was extremely drunk and went to the hotel so she could pass out, which she did while fully clothed.

She told police she woke up to find Eason had removed her pants and was having sex with her, according to an Elgin police report. The woman told police four days later she passed out at the hotel, did not consent to sex with anyone and did not intend to have sex with Eason.

Eason was released from custody after the not guilty verdict. A message left at the Kane County public defender's office, which represented Eason in the case, was not immediately returned.

St. Charles lawsuit settled

The wife of a former Kane County Board chairman candidate recently settled a lawsuit that argued she was injured in July 2009 while volunteering at a VIP tent at Riverfest in St. Charles.

Colleen MacRunnels, of Elburn, whose husband, Jim MacRunnels, unsuccessfully sought the Republican nomination for county board chairman in 2008, sued the St. Charles Downtown Partnership and others, saying she slipped on a mat, broke her ankle, had to have surgery and now has nerve damage.

A confidential, out-of-court settlement was reached earlier this year, records show.
