Glenbard East cruises past Addison Trail

Glenbard East will head into its Windy City tournament championship game at Toyota Park with some momentum after a 9-0 win over Addison Trail on Saturday in Lombard.

The Rams (5-1) had six players score in match, including captains Jordyn Fulton and Brittany Paganucci, who each had 2 goals in the game.

"We did a really good job of communicating today," Fulton said. "Everyone played different positions so that's always nice too. Our runs were always the same. We have a new formation, the diamond, it's really helping us because we're able to shift across the field and get more runs in."

The Rams took advantage of the high defensive line Addison Trail was playing with numerous runs, though getting caught offside a couple times, which led to Fulton's first goal.

An Addison Trail own-goal and a nice free kick from Fulton quickly made it 3-0 in the first 10 minutes.

It could have been worse for Addison Trail (1-4) had it not been for goalkeeper Susy Ochoa. Ochoa made 10 very good saves in the game, including a point-blank save off a corner in the first half.

"She's a key player on our team," said Addison Trail coach Sergio Nunez. "She does make excellent plays, excellent saves. It's just unfortunate our defense can't help her out… . She's a senior, this is her third year on the varsity level. She's an important piece to our varsity team."

The Rams ended the half up 5-0 with two late first-half goals from Maria Berrum and Paganucci and started the second half just as the ended the first.

In the opening minutes Paige Taylor converted a penalty kick and Paganucci added her second to make it 7-0, which then cut the time on the clock in half.

Holly Ward added her first goal with 15 minutes left to play and in the final minute freshman Katie Hanson got on the end of a Sammie Sarles free kick and put her header in the back of the net.

"We had a really tough loss on Thursday against Naperville North, we were down 5-0 at halftime," Fulton said. "One thing we did better in this game was winning headers. That was our one little weakness that we had… . Right now we're just really looking forward to playing at Toyota Park (on Monday)."
