Softball: Fox Valley roundup Thursday, March 26

Dundee-Crown scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning Thursday to notch a 5-4 win over Hampshire in a nonconference softball game played at The Dome at The Ballpark in Rosemont.

Freshman Sydney Ruggles had a double for the Chargers in their season opener, and she was the winning pitcher. She struck out six and walked one in her varsity debut.

D-C had only 4 hits off Hampshire senior Haley Widmayer but took advantage of 4 errors by the Whip-Purs and 9 walks. Freshman Deanna Origer also had an RBI for the Chargers.

Ellie Lapi, Aly Snider, Melissa Esparza and Lauren Egger (3B, RBI) each had 2 hits for Hampshire (1-3).

Benet 12, South Elgin 9: Allison Kaiser and Taylor Ford each had triples and 2 RBI but the Storm (1-1) lost this nonconference slugfest. Cassidy Westlund (2-for-3, 2 doubles, RBI), Hannah Gordon (2-for-3), Stacy Bellack (2-for-4, 2B, RBI), Demi Queen (RBI) and Bri Pena (RBI) also contributed to the offense for the Storm. Kaiser was the losing pitcher.
