Earthquake reported west of Lake in the Hills

A 2.9 magnitude earthquake hit near Lake in the Hills last night, the U.S. Geological Survey says. The quake happened just after 6 p.m. about a mile west of Lake in the Hills and three miles northwest of Algonquin. Full story.

Hinsdale South student brings BB gun to school

A Hinsdale South student brought a broken BB gun to school Wednesday, district officials said. An investigation began as soon as a teen reported that a fellow student had the weapon, Hinsdale Township High School District 86 officials said in a news release. Full story.

Carpentersville candidate admits to lying about arrest on questionnaire

Carpentersville trustee candidate Humberto Garcia admits that he lied about never having been arrested. In an election questionnaire he filled out for the Daily Herald, Garcia responded "no" when asked if he had ever been arrested or convicted of a crime. Full story.

Police: Round Lake Beach man drove drunk with kids in car

A Round Lake Beach man was driving with a blood alcohol level more than four times the legal limit Saturday night when police pulled him over and found three children in his car, authorities said Wednesday. He voluntarily submitted to a Breathalyzer test that showed his blood alcohol content at 0.352, police said. Full story.

Parents want to let kids skip state tests

Parents flocked to the Capitol in Springfield Wednesday to urge lawmakers to pass legislation that would let parents decide whether their children take standardized tests. Bulls pick up big win at Toronto
