Schaumburg art school students raise $8,000

Students of the Illinois Institute of Art in Schaumburg raised more than $8,000 for a not-for-profit working with young people through their annual fashion show March 12, which showcased talent from the school and local artists.

This year's theme was Exposed, expressing the vulnerability that comes with facing obstacles in life. The school partnered with a charity called 360 Youth Services that works with ages 8 to 24, offering counseling programs, mentor programs, housing and an LGBTQ collaborative. All proceeds were given to the charity.

The students related to the age group and their life situations.

The show opened dramatically with a poet that described her raw upbringing, which set the tone. The designers incorporated the theme by visually expressing vulnerability through their garments with sheer paneling and urban flair. Tying into urban flair, the students incorporated a local dance group that performed street-style choreography.
