Lt. Gov. keynote speaker at Judson Prayer Breakfast

Lt. Gov. Evelyn Sanguinetti will be the keynote speaker at Judson University's annual Community Prayer Breakfast May 6.

The breakfast is 7:30 to 9 a.m. in the Lindner Fitness Center, 1151 N. State St., Elgin.

Sanguinetti, who was elected in November 2014, is the 47th lieutenant governor of Illinois and the first Hispanic to be elected to the office. She also is the first female Hispanic lieutenant governor in the United States.

Born in Miami to a Cuban refugee mother and father who immigrated to the United States from Ecuador, Sanguinetti earned her bachelor's degree in piano performance from Florida International University and a law degree from Chicago's John Marshall Law School, where she is an adjunct professor.

She previously worked as an assistant attorney general for former Illinois Attorney General Jim Ryan, and in private practice.

Sanguinetti was first elected to public office in 2011 when she became a member of the Wheaton City Council. She served on the council until being elected lieutenant governor.

Sanguinetti is active with several civic organizations, including the Franklin Middle School, Lowell Elementary and Jefferson Preschool parent-teacher associations, the Wheaton Chamber of Commerce and the DuPage County Bar Association.

She is married to attorney Raymond Sanguinetti and has three children.

During the Community Prayer Breakfast, Judson will honor a local civic leader with the D. Ray Wilson Award, presented annually to someone who has contributed to the greater good within the greater Elgin community by voluntarily serving others' physical, emotional, intellectual or spiritual needs. Nominations for the award can be submitted at judsonu.edu/prayerbreakfast/nominations through April 7.

More than 300 Fox Valley volunteers and civic leaders attend the prayer breakfast each year. Tickets are $25 with registration at judsonu.edu/prayerbreakfast.
