Hawthorn student artwork a hit at Aspen Drive Library

Artwork created by Vernon Hills-area students is on display at the Aspen Drive Library during the 5th annual Hawthorn School District 73 Art Show.

The show represents art created by about 375 students in grades kindergarten through eighth grade, and will be on display at the library through Saturday, April 4.

An opening reception was held March 12 at the Vernon Hills library, with more than 650 students, family and friends attending.

"It was a wonderful community event," said Jan Hastings, student services coordinator for the Cook Memorial Public Library District. "Students are so proud to show their parents and grandparents the work they have on the walls. It is one of the best events that we do all year."

The show encompasses work in various media, including acrylic, tempera and watercolor painting, drawings with pastels, oil pastels, chalk, pen and ink, marker, colored pencil, computer graphics, paper weaving and assorted mixed media.

Some of the student's artwork emulates the styles of famous artists, such as Georgia O'Keefe, Claude Monet, Vincent Van Gogh and Henri Matisse.
