Man arrested on charges of 6th DUI in East Dundee

A man accused of his sixth DUI faces a minimum of six years in prison after a Sunday arrest by East Dundee Police, according to authorities and court records.

Hugo Muneton, 28, of the 2300 block of Fairfield Drive, Belvidere, was arrested about 2 a.m. after police observed his 2004 Ford Focus driving erratically and below the speed limit on Route 72 through East and West Dundee, East Dundee Police Chief Terry Mee said.

Muneton took field sobriety tests, was arrested but complained he needed medical treatment and was taken to Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin.

Mee said police found open alcohol in Muneton's car. No one was injured in the incident.

"There were just numerous, numerous containers of open alcohol throughout the vehicle," Mee said. "He was a danger to himself and others. It was back and forth lane usage, unusual speeds, significant speeds under the speed limit."

Information about all of his previous DUI arrests and convictions was not immediately available. Kane County court records show he was arrested January 2007 and charged with DUI and driving without a license in Elgin. He pleaded guilty in August 2007 and was sentenced to probation, which he later violated, records show.

Muneton was being held at the Kane County jail on $100,000 bail, meaning he must post $10,000 to be released while the case is pending.

He is due in court Thursday.

If convicted of his sixth DUI, Muneton faces up to 30 years in prison without the possibility of probation.

He also was charged with a felony count of driving while license revoked in his Sunday arrest.
