Arena crowd celebrates Bigfoot's birthday

A birthday bash was held this past weekend and the delighted 10,000-pound guest of honor celebrated by revving up and crushing some cars.

The legendary "Bigfoot" monster truck, a jacked-up 1974 Ford F-250 built by Bob Chandler in 1975, is turning 40 this year. A special celebration took place as part of the Lucas Oil Monster Truck Nationals held at the Sears Centre Arena last Friday and Saturday night.

Three generations of Bigfoot trucks were on hand, including an anniversary edition that was coated in chalkboard paint. Prior to the event, guests of all ages were invited to write a special birthday message on the big-block behemoth.

A birthday cake was also brought out, but before anyone could partake, Rockzilla, a fire-breathing mechanical dragon, devoured it. Judging by all the ear-to-ear smiles on those in attendance and the happy roar of the ground-shaking trucks, no one seemed to mind.

Fans eagerly flocked to meet the drivers at the event's "Pit Party." Josh Gibson, driver of the Anniversary Bigfoot, meets a young admirer and signs a race pennant.
