Wauconda's a winner vs. Woodstock
Wauconda's baseball team got its season off to a good start Saturday.
Kevin Malisheski earned the win in a 4-1 victory over visiting Woodstock in a nonconference game. The Bulldogs scored twice in the second inning and added solo runs in the third and fourth.
Woodstock plated its only run in the fifth.
Libertyville 5, St. Viator 4: Ben Manski's RBI double in a 2-run sixth inning helped the Wildcats to their second win in as many days.
Jake Vogt went 2-for-2 for Libertyville (2-0), while Charlie Murphy picked up the win in relief, allowing only 1 run in 3 innings. Riley Lees had a sacrifice fly for the Wildcats.
Mundelein 12, Lakeview 1: Sam Osisek went 3-for-3 with a home run and double for the host Mustangs.
Nick Stricker (2-for-2) and Nick Brune (2-for-3) each had 2 doubles for Mundelein (2-0), while Wes Farmer and Reed Rubio also doubled. Reese Dolan was the winning pitcher.
Hampshire 9, Round Lake 0: Tyler Sanchez had 2 hits for the Panthers in their road loss.
Waukegan sweeps Antioch: The Sequoits dropped both games of the doubleheader, 5-4 in 12 innings and 4-2.
John Neville was 3-for-6 and John Petty went 2-for-6 with 2 RBI in the extra-inning loss for Antioch. Justin Stender had a double and 2 RBI.
In the Sequoits' other game, Petty was 2-for-3 with a double, and Stender doubled as well.
Fremd 9, Lake Zurich 1: Spencer Wright was 2-for-2 with a walk and run scored for the Bears in their nonconference loss.
Trevor Staley doubled for Lake Zurich.
Carmel loses twice: At Jacksonsville, the seventh inning was the demise for the Corsairs in a pair of games. They went up 4-2 in the sixth inning against Normal U-High, only to allow 3 runs in the bottom of the seventh and lose 5-4.
Cooper Johnson and Austin Knauer each had 2 hits for Carmel.
The Corsairs allowed a single run in the seventh against Peoria Richwoods and fell 2-1. Johnson had a hit and an RBI. Garrett McClellan went the distance on the mound in taking the loss, striking out 11 batters.
Vernon Hills 14, Von Steuben 2: Connor McNamara had 2 hits and 3 RBI for the host Cougars. Matt Paszko and Nick Marras each drove in 2 runs.
Wheeling 7, Grayslake North 4: Stefan Davis was 2-for-3 for the Knights in their nonconference road loss.
