Dogs enjoy the egg hunt in Elk Grove Village

More than 30 dogs pawed their way through winter's dormant grass looking for doggy treats encased in Easter egg shells at the Doggy Egg Hunt held Saturday at Al Hattendorf Center in Elk Grove Village.

Breeds of all mixes and sizes sniffed their way to the tasty treats after they first competed in an agility course with their owners.

"This is our first (egg hunt), and we hope to do really well," said Nicole Deckert of Elk Grove Village, dressed in bunny ears with her mini-Dachshund, Tank.

The dogs also participated in a pet parade that had all the dogs barking - the beagle the loudest, of course.

Diane Malinowski of Elk Grove Village was there with her golden retriever, Charlie.

"He (Charlie) has been here before so he knows how to crack open the eggs," Malinowski said.

Every dog went away happy and barking with a doggy prize under their collars.
