Governor appoints Aurora Fire Marshal to state post

Gov. Bruce Rauner announced Friday that he appointed Aurora Fire Marshal Matthew Perez as the new Illinois Fire Marshal.

Perez has nearly 30 years of experience in public safety. He has been with the department for 27 years.

Before his work as a firefighter, Perez was a Kane County sheriff's deputy. He worked for two years as a patrol officer.

A graduate of Southern Illinois University, Perez holds a bachelor's degree in fire service management. He lives in Sugar Grove.
