Andrew Zimmer went 2-for-3 with a double and 2 RBI and Riley Alvarado was 2-for-4 with an RBI as Dundee-Crown's baseball team opened its season Thursday with a 7-5 nonconference win over Buffalo Grove.
Nick Musielewicz and Brett Johnson also had RBI for the Chargers.
Danny Denz allowed just 2 hits and had 6 strikeouts with no walks in 3 ⅓ innings to pick up the win on the mound. Jim Welzien pitched the final inning to earn the save.
Hampshire 11, Belvidere North 1: Tyler Schutt went 3-for-4 with an RBI and Alex Crinigan scattered 5 hits with 4 strikeouts over 4 ⅓ innings to earn the win as Hampshire opened its season with a nonconference win in 5 innings. Matthew Kielbasa (RBI) and Trislyn Ross (3 RBI) each doubled for the Whip-Purs, while Noah Schrader, Michael Kruse, Bryan Diete, Trey Schramm and Jacob Manning each drove in a run as well.
DeKalb 6, Elgin 4: Tom Sobeski had 2 RBI for Elgin in its season-opening nonconference loss. Scotty Palmer and Rigoberto Sanchez (RBI) each had 2 hits for the Maroons and Brandon Stork drove in a run. Clay White suffered the pitching loss.
Elgin Academy 17, IMSA 1: Ian Wilson and Carl Rauschenberger each had home runs for the Hilltoppers (2-0) in this nonconference win. Henry Stone had 3 doubles for the winners and Andrew Wilson added 2 doubles. Kacy Kawell had 2 hits and 2 RBI. Jay Cruz allowed just 2 hits in picking up the pitching win.
