Huntley claims FVC indoor crown
Brennan Bell and the Huntley boys track team seem to be in midseason form.
With Bell winning the 55-meter intermediate hurdles and the 55 high hurdles, the Red Raiders were able to cruise to the Fox Valley Conference indoor team title with 136 points Wednesday at Dundee-Crown. Grayslake Central was a distant second with 82 points.
"I changed to a seven-step technique in the hurdles and it seems to be working," said Bell. "We were a dominant team last year and have everybody back. Our goals are very high."
In the 1,600, Keagan Smith claimed first place honors for Huntley in a time of 4:32.25.
"I have really been running well." said Smith. "My game plan was to take the lead early and have enough to kick the last 480."
Connor Boos joined Bell and Smith in the winners circle for the Red Raiders by claiming top honors in the 200 in a clocking of 23.72.
The Red Raiders also won the 6,400 relay in a time of 1:17.37.
"We have had a lot of seconds in this meet, but this is the first time we have been first as a team," said Huntley coach Jim Rolando. "Brennan had a great night and everybody contributed."
Grayslake Central, led by two first-place efforts from DeJuan Ali, was second. Ali won the long jump with a leap of 21 feet, ¾ inch and the triple jump (42 ¾).
Cary-Grove was third with 74 points.
Ricky Hurley won the conference indoor shot put title for the third straight year with a toss of 55-9.
"I finally threw better the last couple of throws," said Hurley, "I kept my chest up and followed through."
Jacobs was fourth, a point behind Cary-Grove with 73.
Steve Golby (800, 2:06.45) and Dylan Rogers (400, 55.96) had first place efforts for the Golden Eagles,
Jacobs also won the 1,600 and 3,200 relays.
Dundee-Crown was sixth with 54 points.
Kiwaun Seals was the top Charger finisher placing third in the triple jump. The D-C 6,400 relay was second.
Crystal Lake South tied for eighth with Prairie Ridge. Both teams scored 32 points.
The Gators' top performer was Kyle Hedge, who was second in the shot put with a throw of 54-1.
Grayslake North was 10th with 13 points.
The Knights' top effort came from Titus Booker, who was fourth in the 55 dash.
