Kiwanis member involved 65 years in Aurora Pancake Day

Ninety-seven year-old G. William "Bill" Moore has been a member of the Kiwanis Club of Aurora since 1950. And each year he has been involved with the annual Kiwanis Pancake Day fundraiser.

Moore remembers the early years when pancake legend "Aunt Jemima" flew in by helicopter or came by train, when Quaker Oats was supplying the pancake mix. In 1957, Aurora held a parade with Aunt Jemima.

This Saturday, March 21, the Aurora and Fox Valley community are invited to the 65th Kiwanis Pancake Day from 7 a.m. to noon at Aurora Central Catholic High School, 1255 N. Edgelawn Drive in Aurora.

The Kiwanis Club of Aurora, now in its 98th year, presents this annual breakfast event to fund their work with children and the community. Last year, the club served more than 1,600 breakfasts.

Annually, the Aurora, Illinois Kiwanis Foundation donates $30,000, primarily to Aurora's youth. These donations occur through awarding of Kiwanis scholarships (managed by the Community Foundation of the Fox Valley); subsidies to Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and baseball teams; and the sponsorship of clubs for youth at the elementary, high school and college levels.

Tickets for the breakfast may be purchased for $7 per person at the door. For more information, visit www.aurorakiwanis.org.
