DUI suspect had blood alcohol of .333, police say

A woman involved in a collision Sunday evening near a Mount Prospect Jewel store had a blood alcohol content of .333 - about four times the legal threshold, prosecutors said Monday.

Danuta Lata, 58, of Crest Hill, was charged with aggravated DUI, a felony punishable by up to seven years in prison.

The Mount Prospect officer who responded to the crash at 333 E. Euclid Ave. reported detecting an odor of alcohol coming from Lata's vehicle, Cook County Assistant State's Attorney David Shin said during a hearing Monday, where Judge Joseph Cataldo ordered Lata held on $40,000 bail.

Lata began backing her vehicle into the officer's squad car at least three times, even though the officer had instructed her to keep her car in park, Shin said.

At one point the officer had to dodge the driver's open door, Shin said.

Lata, who has DUI convictions from 2001 and 1996, failed field sobriety tests, Shin said.

She next appears in court on April 7.
