History on display at Fox Valley Antiques Show

Fifty-five highly regarded antique dealers brought thousands of pieces of history to St. Charles over the weekend for the 58th Fox Valley Antiques Show at the Kane County Fairgrounds Prairie Events Center.

“We are seeing many more young people showing interest,” said Debbie McArdle, owner of Iron Horse Antiques of Crystal Lake, as browsers packed her booth of Civil War guns, flags and artifacts. “All of this is repurposing. It's good for the environment and good for the economy.”

Dealers from 14 states filled the 55 booths arranged in room settings. Everything from furniture to jewelry to toys, weapons, stitching, glassware and tools used by American pioneers was on display and for sale. Many items were more than 350 years old.

A new feature at the spring show was a one-hour presentation on pattern glass featuring Nancy Smith of Lamplight & Old Glass Ltd. from Grand Rapids, Michigan.

There is a fall show in the same location on the third weekend of October. This weekend's show, produced by the Chicago Suburban Antiques Dealers Association, helped benefit the Garfield Farm Museum in Campton Hills.
