Cubs win over Brewers,Athletics

The Cubs spring training split squad racked up two wins Saturday - one over the Milwaukee Brewers in Phoenix and the other over the Oakland Athletics in Las Vegas.

Cubs 10, Brewers 5:

PHOENIX - Jonathan Lucroy made his spring debut Saturday and said he had no problems with a hamstring injury that had kept him out for four weeks and Adam Lind homered in just his second game, but the Milwaukee Brewers lost to a Chicago Cubs split squad 10-5.

Matt Szczur had two hits, including his third home run of the spring, for Chicago. Mike Olt, Welington Castillo and Adron Chambers each had two RBIs in the Cubs' seven-run third.

Edwin Jackson allowed one hit in three innings for Chicago.

Jimmy Nelson allowed five runs and five hits in 2 2-3 innings.

Lind was out with back spasms for a week. He played his first game Thursday and was 2 for 3 Saturday, both as the designated hitter. Lucroy, the All-Star catcher, was hitless in one at-bat.

Also in camp for Milwaukee was All-Star closer Francisco Rodriguez, who finalized his two-year, $13 million contract Saturday morning.

Cubs 3, Athletics 1:

LAS VEGAS - Cubs third base prospect Kris Bryant got into the game late, then hit two home runs in front of his hometown Las Vegas fans to highlight Chicago's 3-1 win over the Oakland Athletics on Saturday.

Bryant, who leads baseball with six home runs in spring training, was out of the starting lineup because of a sore right shoulder. He homered as a pinch-hitter for designated hitter Anthony Rizzo, and homered again three innings later in the split-squad game.

It's the second time this week Bryant hit two homers in a game. He momentarily upstaged Will Ferrell while the actor played center field for the Angels on Thursday.

Bryant, who went to high school in Las Vegas, became the headliner in his hometown's annual big league weekend.

Kyle Hendricks threw five hitless innings for Chicago, striking out three.

Max Muncy drove in Oakland's run with a sacrifice fly in the eighth.
