Sherman West Court receives 5-star rating in Best Nursing Homes 2015

Advocate Sherman West Court has once again received the highest possible overall rating of five stars in the U.S. News & World Report's annual Best Nursing Homes.

Best Nursing Homes - now in its seventh year - is designed to help the millions of Americans who will spend at least some time in a nursing home in 2015 rehabilitating after a hospital stay or as long-term residents. The skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility in Elgin has received the honor several years in a row.

"Our team is so deserving of this recognition," said Angela Lackowski, assistant administrator at Sherman West Court. "They work very hard to achieve high marks in the areas of patient satisfaction, safety and quality."

Sherman West Court opened in 1991 as a 120-bed independent and skilled nursing care facility. It now offers 74 rehabilitation and 38 skilled nursing beds, with private room options.

Services include rehabilitation, long-term care, respite and hospice services, as well as short-term post-acute care. The facility sees approximately 850 admissions per year, and eight associates have worked there for more than 20 years.

The five-star rating program was restructured in February, Lackowski said, making it more challenging for facilities to attain the highest rating in health care inspections, staffing, and measures of medical quality of care.

"Our five-star rating remained unchanged due to the exceptional outcomes and staffing Sherman West Court provides," she said. "Our staff takes pride not only in these types of recognition, but the personal differences they make to each and every patient and resident that comes through the door."

Best Nursing Homes provides data and information on care, safety, health inspections, staffing and more for the majority of U.S. nursing homes. The searchable database allows users the ability to find highly-rated nursing homes by distance as well as location. Each facility's profile display health and fire safety violations, performance in important clinical categories, and how much time nursing staff spends with residents.

California has the highest number of five-star nursing homes, followed by Ohio, Florida, Illinois and Texas.

"Finding the right place for an elderly loved one is a challenge millions of Americans face each year, Brian Kelly, editor and chief content officer of U.S. News, said in a news release. "We hope our Best Nursing Home ratings, advice and tools help them navigate this important decision."
