Bring your items to Kane County Recycles event

The Kane County Recycles event will take place from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 14, behind the Kane County Circuit Clerk's Office, 540 S. Randall in St. Charles.

This month's event will feature document shredding. Bring your confidential documents in paper bags or boxes; limit is four boxes per vehicle. This service is for residents only; no documents from businesses.

Liquid latex paint is also one of the popular items to be recycled at this event, and it's the only item that has a recycling fee per container. It is $2 per pint, $3.50 per gallon, and $10 per 5-gallon bucket. Cash or check will be accepted.

Latex paint is nontoxic but difficult to dispose of normally because you have to dry it out before placing it in your landfill trash. However, it can be easily recycled into new products with no drying out necessary. No oil-based product will be accepted.

Electronics, such as computers, keyboards, laptops, printers, televisions (any size or age), stereos, cellphones, microwaves and Christmas lights, are recycled at this event. A complete list of accepted items and more information can be found at the Kane County Electronics/Books Recycling webpage.

Kane County also accepts books of any age and condition for reuse or recycling.

The county does not accept hazardous waste or large household appliances, such as washers and refrigerators.
