Walk to Cure Arthritis comes to Lake County

Arthritis Foundation Raises Funds for a Cure in the Lake County Walk to Cure Arthritis

Help find a cure by participating in and fundraising for the 2015 Walk to Cure Arthritis April 25, 2015 - 10 a.m. at Old School Forest Preserve - Shelter E. Walk to Cure Arthritis is the Arthritis Foundation's signature, national fundraising event to fight arthritis, the nation's leading cause of disability.

The Lake County Walk to Cure Arthritis will feature local honorees who will share their inspirational stories about their battles with arthritis. Youth honoree, Kort Visocnik is 11 years old, and was diagnosed with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (JRA) just shy of his third birthday. This year's adult honoree is Doug Van Treeck. He was diagnosed with JRA at age 10 in 1973, and it has progressed into osteoarthritis (OA).

Arthritis is a crippling disease that impacts more than 50 million adults and 300,000 children - or approximately 22 percent of the United States population. The disease costs the U.S. economy $128 billion dollars a year, and it is a more frequent cause of activity limitation than heart disease, cancer, or diabetes.

Funds raised through the Lake County Walk to Cure Arthritis will go toward programs, research, and advocacy initiatives to help people today, while finding a cure for tomorrow.

"Arthritis is costly, painful and debilitating, and makes a significant impact in the lives of people in your community," says region CEO Tom Fite. "By participating in and raising funds for Lake County Walk to Cure Arthritis, you will help us reach our goal of raising $67,500 to remove the burden of arthritis entirely by bringing us closer to a cure."
