Arlington Heights woman dies from crash injuries

An Arlington Heights woman has died from injuries she suffered Monday when she was struck by a car while walking her dog near Pioneer Park.

Barbara Rose Leinonen, 57, died Wednesday, according to a statement from her family released by Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.

“The family has asked that we all respect their wishes for privacy,” the statement reads.

Leinonen was hit shortly before 6:55 a.m. Monday at Grove Street and Kaspar Avenue, Arlington Heights police Capt. Andrew Whowell said.

Whowell said the police department is conducting a speed analysis and getting search warrants for the 16-year-old driver's phone records. Whowell said both those checks are routine procedure in an accident, and he expects the investigation to be completed later this week.

The driver has not been charged or cited, police said.

A statement on Leinonen's Facebook page by her son called it “a terrible accident.”

“My mother was an amazing woman, and will always be in our hearts,” he wrote.
