Local sixth-grader wins state hoops championship

The Elgin Elks Lodge 737 honored Illinois State Hoop Shoot Champion Kyle Skores at their annual awards banquet March 3.

Kyle won the state championship for 12- to 13-year-old boys, after making five out of five free throws in a shootout in Decatur, Ill.

Kyle is a sixth-grade student at St. Laurence School in Elgin. He now advances to the Regional Hoop Shoot contest in Iowa City, Iowa, on March 21.

Winning that contest will allow him to participate in the national contest in Springfield, Mass., where winners names are engraved at National Basketball Hall of Fame.
