Metra commute should be normal Tuesday, officials say

Metra officials say Tuesday morning's commute will likely be back to normal after a train derailed Monday night, wreaking havoc on three different Metra lines during the evening rush.

Commuters should check the Metra website Tuesday morning to verify train times before heading to their stations, Metra Spokeswoman Meg Reile said.

"We'll update there as soon as we know the extent of the damages and the extent of the repairs necessary," Reile said.

A crane arrived around 7 p.m. to re-rail the locomotive from North Central Line train 107, which derailed just after 3 p.m. near Western Avenue in Chicago. No injuries were reported.

Once that step is complete, Metra officials will know what damage happened to the tracks in a critical area that blocked inbound and outbound trains on the North Central line, Milwaukee District North Line and the Milwaukee District West Line.

Metra officials said Monday night that the Milwaukee North Line, which includes stops in Libertyville, Grayslake and Round Lake, and ends in Fox Lake, was most profoundly impacted. Train traffic was limited on this line throughout the night.

Other extensive delays happened on the North Central Line, where the derailed train was expected in Antioch at 4:35 p.m. Other stops on that line include: Prospect Heights, Wheeling, Buffalo Grove, Mundelein and Round Lake Beach.

Extensive delays also happened inbound and outbound on the Milwaukee West Line, which includes stops to Wood Dale, Itasca, Roselle, Schaumburg and Elgin, ending at Big Timber Road.

"Please everyone who uses those lines, please check our website before going to your train station in the morning," Reile said.
