Serbian restaurant opening in Mount Prospect

Mount Prospect, home to a diverse array of culinary offerings, is about to get a restaurant featuring Serbian style cooking.

This week, the Mount Prospect village board approved a liquor license for Balkan Taste, 2354 S. Elmhurst Road.

"There is a lot of immigrants - new immigrants - coming to the Northwest suburbs," owner Bojan Bojanovic told trustees. "There are a lot of businesses being run in Elk Grove Village, Des Plaines and the Northwest suburbs. So there is a huge population people from Yugoslavia, Bulgaria, Poland and close countries doing business there, and we pretty much all eat really similar food. Most of them are singles. They don't cook. They buy food every day. And we want to bring them a taste of home cooking."

He said he plans to throw in a touch of French cuisine. The 2,000-square-foot restaurant will have 25 seats and a small bar area, he said. "It is a small place, but it is suitable for small celebrations."

This is the first foray at running a restaurant for Bojanovic, who said he received training from the culinary school Le Cordon Bleu.
