B.R. Ryall YMCA adds weight room

Patrons of the B.R. Ryall YMCA of Northwestern DuPage County have a new weight room, giving them the opportunity for a complete body workout.

The weight room includes Smith machine, Olympic bench, squat rack and power cage equipment. The room also is outfitted with wall mirrors and a rubberized floor.

"Members have been requesting a larger free weight area and additional plate-loaded machines, and we are very excited to be meeting their needs," said Megan Schici, health and wellness director for B.R. Ryall YMCA.

"Lifting weights and gaining muscle is an important part of a well-rounded fitness routine. It is the best way to ramp up your metabolism for an all-day higher caloric burn."

The new weight room is located in the former Teen Room, The Zone, and adjacent to the Wellness Center. A doorway was constructed so entry can be made directly from the Wellness Center. The Teen Room has been relocated to a different part of the building.

To keep the building in good condition so it continues to be a welcoming place for the community, earlier improvements included installing a new roof; refinishing floors in the gym and group exercise room; draining the pools for cleaning, maintenance and installing a new UV system; and various cosmetic and repurposing changes.
