New bowlers add power to Bowlway Lanes team

As Bowlway Lanes prepares to defend its match-game title in this year's Elgin Cross-Town Classic III, three new bowlers will be on the starting team along with an alternate.

"We've added some more power in our lineup and our first lefty," said Bowlway Lanes co-owner Norm Grocke.

Team Bowlway features four right-handers and one left-hander. Returning from last year's squad in the Lead-Off position is Sean Hargadon (207 average) and in the Anchor position is Wayne Curley (211 average).

Filling out the lineup is Mark Toppel in the second position, John Golden (lefty) in the third position, and Dan Martin in the Set-Up position, with all the players averaging 207 combined. Total average for the five-man team is 1039.

The alternate is Mike Grocke, who led Bowlway Lanes to its first championship in 2013 and currently holds a 200 average.

Golden was an alternate last year and said he was determined to make the starting lineup for this year's tournament. He was not alone.

"Making this team was my goal once I started the season," said Dan Martin, another newcomer.

"I had a good run at the end of last season and wanted to keep it going so I could represent Bowlway this year," added Mark Toppel.
