Roselle parolee arrested on charges of selling heroin

A Roselle man on parole for a 2009 burglary conviction faces new charges that he delivered heroin to undercover police officers five separate times in February.

A Cook County judge Wednesday ordered Paul Ramos, 27, held on bail totaling $250,000 for delivery of a controlled substance charges. Ramos, of the 800 block of Yosemite Trail, is also charged with possession of a controlled substance.

If convicted of the most serious charge, Ramos faces up to 30 years in prison.

Cook County Assistant State's Attorney David Shin said Ramos sold heroin to undercover officers with the DuPage Metropolitan Enforcement Group in amounts ranging from 4.5 grams on Feb. 5 to 19.5 grams on Feb. 23. When police arrested him Wednesday, Ramos had 15 grams of heroin in his possession, Shin said.

Ramos received 24 months of probation in 2009 for his guilty plea to residential burglary, Shin said. But a violation of the Illinois vehicle code led to a revocation of probation and a four-year prison sentence, Shin said.

Ramos was also convicted of falsifying a law enforcement badge in 2013 and sentenced to 134 days in jail, Shin said.

He next appears in court March 27.
