Purdue, Sigma Nu suspend Purdue Beta Zeta Chapter

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) - Purdue University and Sigma Nu Fraternity Inc. have suspended the national fraternity's Purdue Beta Zeta Chapter for two years. The decision comes after finding that the chapter hosted functions where hazing occurred and minors consumed alcohol.

The chapter's suspension announced Tuesday begins immediately.

Purdue and Sigma Nu officials investigated reports of hazing, including servitude, drug use and alcohol use by minors during Beta Zeta Chapter functions and found that such activities had taken place during the fall 2014 semester. The fraternity and Purdue took the joint action to suspend the chapter.

The chapter's suspension means about 25 student residents of the privately-owned chapter house must find new accommodations.

Beta Zeta Chapter of Sigma Nu will be eligible to return to the West Lafayette campus in the fall 2017 semester.
