Modern style intersects with history at Fox Valley Antiques Show

Come find your original treasure at the 58th Fox Valley Antiques Show Saturday and Sunday at the Kane County Fairgrounds in St. Charles. The show will feature 55 dealers from 14 states, bringing a variety of 18th- to early-20th century antiques.

Dealers exhibit in the Prairie Events Center, their offerings arranged in room settings, many with an emphasis on decorative and graphic design. A "screened" show assures authenticity, allowing customers to buy with confidence, according to organizers.

A new feature is a one-hour presentation on pattern glass at 4 p.m. Saturday featuring Nancy Smith of Lamplight & Old Glass Ltd. in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She has been a collector of Early American Pattern Glass since she received her first piece as a high school graduation present from her mother, and has been a pattern glass dealer for approximately 35 years. A recognized expert in the field of Early American Pattern Glass, Smith helped to establish the National Early American Pattern Glass Society and serves as a trustee for the organization, as well as being active in numerous other glass organizations and a benefactor of the Museum of American Glass in Weston, West Virginia. As a dealer she shows in Pennsylvania, Indiana, Illinois, Ohio and Michigan. Smith will discuss pattern glass, using as illustration the various pieces in her booth.

Tickets are $8 and show hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the fairgrounds, 525 S. Randall Road.

The show is produced by the Chicago Suburban Antiques Dealers Association and is sponsored by Garfield Farm Museum in Campton Hills.
