What changes, if any, do you think need to be made?I think we are doing a great job of preparing our students for high school and beyond. For years we have being using our "All Bound for College" goal-setting process to help students set growth goals which will keep them on track to be successful at the next level. Our focus will continue to be getting all of our students to meet realistic annual growth targets. What budgetary issues will your district have to confront during the next four years and what measures do you support to address them? If you believe cuts are necessary, be specific about programs and expenses that should be considered for reduction or elimination. On the income side, do you support any tax increases for local schools? Again, be specific.Financially, we are in great shape and I do not anticipate us having to ask our voters to pass a referendum, nor do I envision us needing to trim any programs. In fact, when we passed our last referendum to replace the flood-prone Gurnee Grade School, we actually reduced each taxpayer's annual payment. Are you currently employed by or retired from a school district, if so, which one? Is any member of your direct family - spouse, child or child-in-law - employed by the school district where you are seeking a school board seat?I am employed by Community High School District 128. None of my relatives are employed by Gurnee School District 56.As contract talks come up with various school employee groups -- teachers, support staff, etc. -- what posture should the school board take? Do you believe the district should ask for concessions from its employees, expect employee costs to stay about the same as they are now or provide increases in pay or benefits? We have an outstanding relationship with our teachers union which, in part, has enabled us to offer them fair wage increases while still maintaining a balanced budget. Our teachers work extremely hard and we strive to keep their pay at a competitive level. If your district had a superintendent or other administrator nearing retirement, would you support a substantial increase in his or her pay to help boost pension benefits? Why or why not?As a board, we would not support a percentage pay increase for our superintendent that does not fall in line with what our teachers would expect to receive. What other issues, if any, are important to you as a candidate for this office? It is important to elect board members who will keep the work of the board focused where it belongs, on the students. Too often, you hear of board members running for election because they have a personal agenda they want to advance and this agenda has nothing to do with student achievement. Please name one current leader who most inspires you.Candidate did not respond. What's the biggest lesson you learned at home growing up?Candidate did not respond. If life gave you one do-over, what would you spend it on?Candidate did not respond. What was your favorite subject in school and how did it help you in later life?Candidate did not respond. If you could give your children only one piece of advice, what would it be?Candidate did not respond.
