When I moved to Saint Charles twenty two years ago I fell in love with the city I was about to call my home.To this day when I drive past the river to my house I say in my head "I can't believe I live here". Over the years many things have changed. Randall road was farm land and the Blue Goose was in a different location. Change was inevitable but some things have stayed the same; The heart of the town, the river, the bike paths, fourth of July fireworks, to name a few. As a resident, I'm a true voice that wants to see the city I love stay just that. I will be the voice for my ward that will strive to strike a balance with progress and a "home town feel." When I walked my petition to be added to the ballot I was surprised by how many people had a story to tell, a concern to voice. The only agenda I have is to make sure the voice of the third ward is heard. What is your opinion of your community's present level of local sales and property taxes? Is the tax just right, too low or too high? Explain.I think the property taxes are too high. When property values went down the multiplier was increased. That's simply not the way it should work. I have had friends and neighbors move from Saint Charles because of the high property taxes. I don't think this is exclusively a St. Charles issue as much as it is an issue for Illinois. As for the local sales taxes, I think they are in line and reasonable.Rate the efficiency of your town's police and fire coverage. Are the departments well prepared for the next decade? What, if anything, should be changed? Do you have specific public safety concerns?I'm not sure if we are prepared for the next decade...that's a long time and it will depend on what occurs in the city and our world. We are talking about making the river a tourist attraction, that would require a greater staffed police and fire department. Its scary to say, but terrorist activity is a real concern and I don't know if our community is capable of handling something like that at this time. Even with the police department being CALEA accredited, until something like that happens you really don't know well equipped you are to handle it.In the twenty two years that I have lived here I have called 911 four times. I am highly impressed with the efficiency of our police and fire department.Where, if anywhere, could the current budget be trimmed, and conversely, are there areas the budget does not give enough money to?Candidate did not respond. What's one good idea you have to better the community that no one is talking about yet?I'd like to see the landscape change for a younger demographic. Other than the bars in Saint Charles there is little if nothing for the 21-30 year olds to do. I'd like to see something along the lines of a local arcade, indoor golf, or indoor volley ball. What other issues, if any, are important to you as a candidate for this office?Candidate did not respond. Please name one current leader who most inspires you.My favorite quote is "Be the change you wish to see in the world" a quote from Gandhi. He inspires me.What's the biggest lesson you learned at home growing up?My parents didn't pay for everything I needed/wanted. I learned how to manage my money.I've never paid credit card interest in my life.If life gave you one do-over, what would you spend it on?Sorry, though the thought of changing the past is tempting, it has the potential of changing where I am today...I couldn't risk that. What was your favorite subject in school and how did it help you in later life?English.Skills learned in English help me communicate in a world that demands the written word. So little of our communication is verbal anymore. If you could give your children only one piece of advice, what would it be?Let the person that influences you most be the one you see in the mirror.
