Music notes: Coop, EGi play Durty Nellie's

Genre jumpers

Electronica jam rockers The Coop — Jake Barinholtz, Danny Biggins, Joe Re and Cason Trager — formed in Chicago in 2004 and have been mixing and mashing genres since. Teaming up with improvisational and experimental funk rockers Ethereal Groove, Inc., the guys are playing a 21-and-over show at Palatine's Durty Nellie's Friday, with opener Chachuba laying down the trance-fusion grooves.

9:45 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27, at Durty Nellie's, 180 N. Smith St., Palatine. Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door; visit durtynellies.com or call (847) 358-9150.

No treble ...

You couldn't crawl out of bed the second half of 2014 without hearing either Meghan Trainor's “All About That Bass” or people debating its pros and cons. The bubble gum pop star brings her female empowerment message — along with Australian indie pop band Sheppard — to the House of Blues Wednesday.

6 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, at the House of Blues, 329 N. Dearborn, Chicago. Tickets are $25; visit Ticketmaster.com or houseofblues.com/chicago.

Musical reunion

After some time away with the touring company of “Under the Streetlamp,” local musicians Dave Sarkis and Joshua Skaja reunite with their longtime musical collaborator, Crystal Lake native Shane LaVigne, for a new version of their long-running Thursday night musical jam session ... only this time on Wednesday. The trio, plus a few musical guests, will play covers of popular hits and classics, along with a few originals, at Duke's Alehouse and Kitchen in Crystal Lake.

9 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, at Duke's Alehouse and Kitchen, 110 N Main St., Crystal Lake. No cover; visit thedukeabides.com for details.
