COD situation doesn't speak well for voters

Revelations were made by the newspapers that the College of DuPage board has awarding a $762,000 termination bonus to their President Robert Breuder. This news brings interesting facts to light.

We all know that a good salary with pension is needed to get capable people, but this board and this golden parachute are way out of line. Breuder is not being fired. He is leaving before his contract expires.

We now find that these obscene awards are not uncommon. Friendship and loyalty are a good thing, but not if they are paid for by irresponsible people with other people's money. There are good, qualified people that will be happy for the prestige and salary that these institutions represent.

The COD board members are there to do a public service. If they cannot act responsibly and use restraint and good judgment, they should be replaced.

Illinois is in the worst financial condition of any state in the union. This happens when those in power get re-elected despite their waste and frivolous spending of public funds.

Democracy allows the vote to all regardless of knowledge or interest in politics. Some are lazy, some are influenced by friendship or money, but democracy works only if there are enough voters that are aware and use their vote to retain a representative who they are happy with.

Acts of such wasteful spending evidently seem to be OK with the Illinois voters. Some who stay at home on election days or remain ignorant on the goings on in both Springfield and in local politics. This does not speak well of Illinois voters, after all the ultimate control of government rests with its citizens.
