With approximately 1,200 students and 250 employees, the school has been a fixture in higher education in Illinois for both the 20th and 21st centuries, and has been a consistent recipient of this BBB Complaint Free Award.

"Your company's commitment to customer service excellence pays dividends in many ways in meeting and exceeding their needs," Steve J. Bernas, BBB president and CEO, noted in the award letter. "We are honored to recognize your business for superior performance in the area of ethical business practices and encourage you to continue your commitment to total customer satisfaction."

Northwestern College has been family-owned since its inception in 1902. In 1958 it was purchased by Violet Schumacher who was both an alumnae in the late 1930s and later an employee and administrator. The institution has remained in the Schumacher family since that time. In 1978, Violet's son, Lawrence Schumacher, was elevated to the position of president, a position he maintains still today. He is joined at the college by his wife, Gail, Northwestern College's executive vice president of operations and their daughter Lauren Schumacher, director of institutional initiatives.

"We are honored to once again receive the Better Business Bureau's Complaint Free Award, this time for the year 2014," commented Lawrence Schumacher, president. "For over 113 years Northwestern College has striven to prepare and empower our diverse student body to pursue their professional and educational goals. Today's Better Business Bureau Complaint Free Award for 2014 is a remarkable testament to the ongoing and consistent commitment we have to our students."
