Massage therapist sentenced for assaulting Barrington teen

A Roselle man convicted of sexually assaulting a teenage girl from Barrington was sentenced to 11 years in prison Tuesday.

Tory R. Taylor, who turns 37 on Wednesday, was working as a massage therapist at a Barrington salon when he assaulted the teen on Jan. 3, 2014.

Cook County Judge Bridget Hughes found Taylor, of the 0-100 block of E. Maple Ave., guilty of the charge following a December bench trial. Taylor received credit for 416 days in custody. He must serve at least 85 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for parole and he must register as a sex offender upon his release.

“The defendant took advantage of a 17-year-old girl ... in a situation where she thought she was with a professional,” said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Susanne Groebner, who requested a substantial prison term.

Citing testimony from two other women who claimed Taylor abused them during appointments, Groebner pointed out “a pattern this defendant has taken in his career as a massage therapist.”

Taylor's criminal background includes a 1994 conviction for aggravated battery with a firearm, for which he was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Defense attorney Glenn Jazwiec requested a five-year term pointing out that 10 years passed from the time Taylor was released from prison in 2004, until he was charged with the 2014 sexual assault.

“That's a substantial period of time not to be in trouble,” Jazwiec said, adding that Taylor's conviction dictates “where he is able to live, where he is able to be and where he is able to go.”

Speaking on his own behalf, Taylor described the experience as humbling.

“I've always been a person of high character,” he said. “To be in this position is humbling ... I will use the experience to learn and grow.”
